Anticipation Builds For 'San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl'

The excitement amongst college football fans has reached a fevered pitch as the countdown to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is down to just two weeks. The game matching the University of Utah and the United States Naval Academy is expected to be a battle for the ages as the winner will be acknowledged as a true champion, while also avoiding their fifth loss of the season. The game is drawing so much interest and enthusiasm that for many, the layoff is nearly too much to bear.

"I couldn't be more excited about this game," said football fan Ryan Stevens. "Two great teams, head to head, to once and for all decide who is the champion...of the Poinsettias. It's going to be great and I actually think the NCAA has been smart to have this layoff in between the end of the season and this mammoth matchup. It builds up interest and gives people time to talk about the game and really dissect every possible angle. It's actually a lot like the Super Bowl- only bigger! Because instead of a stupid tournament where every team has a chance, this is just two teams, hand picked by computers and/or sportswriters. You can't beat that for excitement."

Poinsettia Bowl officials are brimming with pride over the attention being paid to their game and they have vowed that, if they have anything to say about it, the game will match the hype. "We will spare no expense," noted Poinsettia curator and bowl president Bill Certs said. "We plan to bring in the marching band and dance team from Hoover High to preform, which we really think will be neat for the kids and the community. Also, we're in talks to get some pyrotechnics, but you didn't hear that from me! It's going to be a surprise, and we think a very pleasant one at that."

Regardless of what the bowl planing committee has planned, fans are as enthusiastic as ever for what they hope will be a thrilling competition that will, once and for all, give the four months they've spent watching college football closure.

"I'm just glad we're finally going to get the answers we've been longing for," fan Sidney Hickerman said. "After all the talk and all the debates, we're finally going to see who's better: Utah or Navy. I'm getting chills just thinking about it. In all the years of the proud tradition of the Poinsettia Bowl I don't think they've ever had a matchup quite like this. It's nice to know that when this is all said and done, after an entire season of watching hours and hours of games, we'll finally have a solution, a true champion...of the Poinsettia Bowl."
