ESPN to Launch 'espNY' in Effort to Remedy Insufficient Yankees Coverage

With "The Bronx is Burn-ing," yet another mega-hit venture by ESPN's original programming department, wrapping up, ESPN president Burt Abignale is concerned that the New York Yankees will be underrepresented on the cable sports channel's airwaves.

"On average we've only been able to devote 60 percent of the evening and late night Sportscenters along with 75 percent of Baseball Tonight to Yankees news and analysis," Abignale said. " We've been able to work an additional 5 percent in during our WNBA telecasts and other original programming such as poker, but let's be honest, nobody watches that garbage."

"I'm worried we're leaving a lot on the table. I mean, if there's one thing people crave more than extensive Michael Vick coverage, it's Yankees news- that's a scientific fact," Abignale continued. "We only got about 27 minutes of discussion on how bad Mussina sucks on tonight's hour-long 6 p.m. Sportcenter. That's not enough. I'm worried we're alienating a lot of viewers in the process, so that's why we've chosen to create espNY."

Billed as a comprehensive and exhaustive resource for all things Yankees, espNY will be 100 percent Bronx Bombers and will dress the wound that ESPN's current insufficient Yankee coverage pours salt into everyday.

"As president of this company it's my job to know what our viewers want, so unless I'm completely out of touch or have a crayon stuck in my brain, I think the American public, especially middle America, is clamoring for more Yankees," Abignale said. "Who am I to disappoint John Q. Six-Pack?"

espNY is expected to launch in early October, or roughly about the time of the Yankees' 2007 division series playoff exit.
